Evolutionary trees are used in many domains, to reveal the function of genes, study the outbreak of epidemics, and set up inventories of biodiversity and its decline, among other things.
Phylogenetic software programs for evolutionary tree inference and analysis are among the most cited scientific publications.
In this course we will combine theoretical and hands-on sessions to provide a deep understanding of mathematical, statistical and algorithmic basis of phylogenetic methods and show how they can be applied to biological data (e.g. for epidemiology), using popular software tools.
The program is designed for postgraduate students with basic knowledge of evolution and phylogenetic analysis, but also for math, statistics and computing students.

This course is intended to postgraduate students and researchers. Students with basic knowledge in phylogenetic evolution and analysis will be welcome, but also students with other quantitative formations, especially mathematics, statistics and computer science. Currently working or with the prospect to work in the near future, in subjects linked to the course. There is no registration fee for this course.
