On Friday, August 24, 2018, Dr. Ammar Al-Chalabi, Professor of Neurology and Complex Genetic Diseases at King’s College and  Director of the Motoneuron Disease Center of this London institution, visited the Institut Pasteur of Montevideo.

Dr. Al-Chalabi is an expert in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and presented a conference entitled “Research in ALS: Are significant advances being made?” to an audience of doctors, scientists, patients and their families.

In his distinguished career, Al-Chalabi has made significant contributions to the polygenic bases of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), as the detection of the most common cause of this disease, the C9orf72 mutation.

The conference was organized by the Institut Pasteur of Montevideo together with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of the Republic and the NGO We Have ELA.
