Call 07-23: research assistant – Biomolecular Simulations Laboratory – IP Montevideo

The Biosimulations Laboratory of the Institut Pasteur of Montevideo is calling for applications for a Research Assistant position with a load of 30 hours per week.

Training accomplished

We are looking for Master students in Bioinformatics or people with a degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related careers who aspire to undertake postgraduate studies in the area of computational virology.

Experience

The selected person must have basic experience in programming and Linux operating system management. Previous knowledge of bioinformatics and/or structural biology will be considered positively but is not exclusive.

Responsibilities

The selected person will join research projects currently underway in the group, which include:

  • Research in Computational Virology (Flavivirus dynamics and activation, SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein activation and Circovirus modelling).
  • Development and maintenance of the coarse-grained force field SIRAH.
  • Teaching activities are not included in the call profile.

The position is part of a PhD project in Physical and Computational Virology to be carried out in “sandwich” mode between the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP, Trieste, Italy) and the Biosimulations group of the Institut Pasteur in Montevideo. The position foresees a stay of 6 to 9 months in the city of Trieste, where the student will take courses corresponding to the Master’s degree in High Performance Computing.

Duration

The position will have an initial duration of one year and the successful completion of the Master’s degree will be a prerequisite for the continuation of the doctorate for an additional two-year period.
