The garments featured on the runway were created using images captured by the institute\u2019s scientists during their research. They included everything from microscopic views of the cells that form a mole and crystals of a parasite-related protein, to the structures that allow a cell to develop.<\/p>\n

Fashion design students from the University School of Design, Integra and ORT University used these prints to create original pieces.<\/p>\n

The outfits were modeled by the institute\u2019s researchers and support staff on October 17 at Montevideo Shopping. During the event, scientists also gave brief explanations about each image, describing what it depicts and how the elements shown are used to study different diseases and biological phenomena.<\/p>\n

The show was part of the shopping center\u2019s Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign. Within the same initiative, Montevideo Shopping produced scarves and bags featuring scientific images from the institute. These pieces were also presented during the show and are being sold throughout October, with proceeds benefiting the Cancer Fight Commission and the Oncology Department of the Hospital de Cl\u00ednicas.<\/p>\n
