Medical Genomics

The objective of the Medical Genomics program is to combine and enhance the capacities of different laboratories and units of the institute in an area of growing scientific interest that links genetics tools and knowledge with its clinical application.

Since the DNA structure was decoded, andgene functions and mutation were linked to human diseases development, genetic research applied to medicine has gained ground in public health policies.

The advances in sequencing techniques has promoted the development of medical genomics and has led to the inclusion of new knowledge in clinical practice.
In this line, at the IP Montevideo, the Bioinformatics Unit, the Host-Pathogen Interactions Laboratory and the Functional Genomics Laboratory are using genomic techniques with different purposes.
