The Metabolic Diseases and Aging Laboratory of the Institut Pasteur de Montevideo calls a student to carry out their postgraduate thesis (preferably doctorate) with a workload of 30 hours per week.
Training accomplished
This call is aimed at graduates of the Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Human Biology or Biotechnology who wish to start a postgraduate degree and who are interested in working in biomedicine.
Experience
Experience in handling and culture of cells, electrophoresis, western blot, and working with mice will be valued (but not exclusive).
Responsibilities
This work is part of the project financed by FMV-ANII “Activators of the ALK1 signaling pathway as a drug reuse strategy for the therapy of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT)” under the direction of Santiago Ruiz, PhD and the co-direction of Carlos Escande, PhD.
The project seeks to test and characterize drugs that have been approved for medical use in the treatment of certain pathologies, and that we recently discovered activate the ALK1 signaling pathway as a potential alternative for the treatment of HHT.
In this context, the selected person will actively participate in the creation of a small collection of endothelial cells isolated from patients and healthy donors, perform in vitro tests on different cell types, biochemical analysis of the signaling pathways involved in the pathogenesis of HHT, will carry out in vivo tests in a mouse model of HHT and will participate in the study of the differential proteomic profile of the isolated cells.
Remuneration
The selected person will have the support to carry out the postgraduate course through an ANII scholarship associated with the project.
Duration
The position is highly dedicated and will last for a minimum of 2 (master’s) or 3 (doctorate) years.
