The Institut Pasteur of Montevideo (IP Montevideo) and the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA) Joint Unit is calling for applicants for a position of Technical Assistant with a workload of 40 hours per week.
Training attained
We are looking for people with completed undergraduate studies or in the last year of their degree in biological/biomedical sciences: B.Sc. in Biology, B.Sc. in Human Biology, B.Sc. in Biochemistry, B.Sc. in Biotechnology, B.Sc. in Clinical Laboratory, Dr. in Veterinary Medicine, with strong interest in microbiology and/or molecular biology laboratory work.
Experience
Previous experience in laboratory work, especially in serological, microbiological and/or molecular biology techniques (not exclusive), and especially enthusiasm and commitment to research work, as well as the ability to work as part of a team, will be an asset.
Responsibilities
The activities to be developed will be carried out within the framework of the INIA-FPTA project “Study of infectious causes and genetic factors associated with gestation losses in beef cattle in Uruguay”.
The main objectives of this project are (i) to study infectious diseases caused by bacteria, parasites and/or viruses and determine their association with reproductive losses in beef cattle in Uruguay at different stages of gestation; and (ii) detect known genetic and/or hereditary diseases and identify genetic components associated with losses in beef cattle in Uruguay.
The selected person will develop laboratory activities and among the responsibilities are the following:
– Process and analyze different biological samples obtained from animals with gestational losses by microbiological bacterial culture techniques, serological analysis of antibodies induced by infection (ELISA and bacterial antigen agglutination methods), extraction, purification and detection of pathogen DNA by conventional and real time PCR.
– Record and analyze analysis results together with the working group.
– Maintain and update a bank of biological samples obtained/analyzed (serum, nucleic acids, etc.) and microorganisms isolated during the execution of project activities.
Given that part of the project activities involve collaborative work at INIA experimental stations, it is requested to indicate the possibility of short stays at the Animal Health Research Platform in La Estanzuela, department of Colonia (this requirement is not exclusive).
Remuneration
This is a highly dedicated position, with remuneration according to the current salary scale available on our website.
Duration
The commencement of activities is immediate, and the contract would last until November 30, 2026.
