Felipe Trajtenberg, a researcher at the Institut Pasteur de Montevideo and founder of the start-up Locbio, has been appointed as the new coordinator of the Structural Biology Center of Mercosur (Centro de Biología Estructural del Mercosur, CEBEM).

CEBEM is a collaborative network of scientific research groups working to advance structural biology and bioimaging capabilities in South America. It comprises research hubs from four Mercosur member states—Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay—and one associate member state, Chile.

“I am thrilled to take on the role of CEBEM coordinator. In the coming period, we will continue strengthening the network by training young researchers, enhancing collaboration among regional groups, and promoting integrative structural biology to drive regional scientific projects,” said Trajtenberg.

The researcher is part of the Molecular and Structural Microbiology Laboratory at IP Montevideo. He is also the founder of Locbio, a start-up that reprograms cells to perform specific tasks—such as producing biotherapeutics like probiotics to combat colorectal cancer. The company is part of the LAB+ Company Builder portfolio
